MAINTENANCE OF STEEL AND WOODEN EQUIPMENT Background information 1. All play equipment should be inspected and maintained in accordance with the guidelines of standard EN 1176-7.2020 describing guidelines for the installation, inspection, maintenance and operation of playground equipment and surfacing. 2. This document applies to playground equipment and accessories, e.g. wickets, fencing, benches, litter bins, shade guards etc. It is intended for use by playground managers to assist them in the maintenance of any playground. 3. Playground equipment and surfaces should be installed in a safe manner, also to comply, for example, with national or local building and safety regulations. 4. Inspections should form the basis of preventive and corrective maintenance. 5. The frequency of inspections may differ from the frequency given in this document if an assessment of the frequency has been made by a competent person. Control Playgrounds, including playground equipment and surfaces, should be inspected as follows: 1. Routine visual inspection (every 7 days) - an inspection to identify obvious hazards that may arise from normal wear and tear, vandalism or weather conditions, a daily inspection of this type may be required. Elements of a visual inspection: a. tightening of fixings; b. maintenance of coatings on the machine; c. maintenance of any shock-absorbing surfaces; d. bearing lubrication; e. cleaning; f. removal of broken glass and other rubbish or debris; g. marking the level of filling with bulk material on the machine; h. restoring bulk material to the correct level; i. keeping fall spaces clear and free of obstructions. 2. Functional check (monthly) - a check carried out to check the wear and tear and stability of the equipment; a. Structures such as columns, platforms, roofs, panels/barriers, etc., and play elements should not be bent, cracked, loose or heavily corroded. b. Inspection of cleanliness, vertical clearances of the unit, condition of the pavement, exposed foundations, sharp edges, missing parts, excessive wear (of moving parts), adequate level of shock absorption and structural strength. c. Welds show no visible cracks or signs of corrosion. d. Plastic parts such as moulds, panels, slides, climbing handles, plastic balls on handles, caps, etc., are well fixed and are not damaged, loose, cracked, sharp, burnt, deformed or brittle from UV exposure.

Rotating and spring-loaded components operate smoothly, without noise or unexpected movements in the bushings or bearings. f. All non-slip elements (e.g. platforms, platforms, panels, climbing walls, steps and landings) are free of surface wear. g. HPL components (e.g. platforms, panels, climbing walls, steps and landings) have retained at least 85% of their original thickness and have no sharp edges. 3. Annual main inspection - an inspection to establish the overall safety level of equipment, foundations and playing surfaces; a. Risk assessment, including any changes resulting from the assessment of safety measures, the effects of weathering, the presence of rot, decay or corrosion and any changes in the safety level of equipment or pavement as a result of repairs made or parts added or replaced. b. The area is clear of all hazardous items and waste. c. Welds show no visible cracks or signs of corrosion. d. No areas that could cause tripping or hinder falling around, in the free zone or in the surrounding area. e. Plastic parts such as moulds, panels, slides, climbing handles, plastic balls on handles, plugs, etc., are securely attached and are not cracked, loose, broken, sharp edges, burnt, deformed or UV-damaged. f. All parts are securely fastened and do not show excessive movement that could lead to finger traps or other hazards. Please pay particular attention to the rungs so that they do not rotate. g. Rotating and pitching components operate smoothly, without noise or unexpected movements inside the bushing or bearings. h. Ensure that any non-slip elements (e.g. platforms, platforms, panels, climbing walls, steps and landings) have not worn away at the top surface. i. HPL structural elements (e.g. platforms, panels, climbing walls, steps and landings) retain more than 90% of their original thickness and have no sharp edges. j. Walking surfaces are free of any debris that could cause slipping. k. Ensure that all product use labels, and facility markings are still legible. l. No accumulated water inside the units due to sand, leaves, high groundwater levels, etc., and all drain holes are open.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE To ensure safe and trouble-free use of the equipment, regular cleaning and maintenance must be carried out according to the following recommendations: a. Sweep sand, stones, rubbish etc. off stairs and platforms; b. In case of persistent dirt, gently clean the wooden parts with a brush, c. Clean metal equipment with a strong jet of water. d. In wooden appliances: i. Grind the wooden parts with fine-grained sandpaper, repaint the paint coat with water-resistant acrylic paint. (We recommend REMMERS paints). e. In metal equipment for galvanised and powder-coated steel, repaint structural components with paint defects to protect against corrosion. f. For appliances made of stainless steel: i. Rinse off the dirt on the parts with clean water and wipe the surface with a soft cloth; ii. Use a special cleaner for stainless steel. After use, wipe the surface with a soft, clean and dry cloth. g. When cleaning stainless steel: i. Never use highly abrasive materials, wire sponges, abrasive sponges; ii. Never clean with inorganic acids (especially hydrochloric acid or bleach), bleach containing sodium hypochlorite, which can cause surface discolouration and spot corrosion; iii. Never allow stainless steel to come into contact with ordinary steel (particles of ordinary steel will accelerate corrosion on the stainless steel sur face). iv. Before cleaning, it is essential to read the safety data sheets of the cleaning products and follow the manufacturer's instructions. v. Use personal protective equipment, ensure good ventilation in an enclosed space and pay attention to fire hazards.
